MAPREG’s team has identified the protein MAP2 (Microtubule-Associated-Protein 2) as the specific functional receptor of Pregnenolone (PREG) in the CNS : PREG binds to MAP2 and promotes microtubules polymerization and neurite outgrowth.
MAPREG develops PREG-derivatives, non hormonal compounds, that reach the CNS and target MAP2, and that stimulate, protect and repair altered neuronal microtubules
